Easy to Do Business With
In a world where prospects, customers and others are time-pressed and are not sure who or what companies they can trust, a key to building your business is to “be easy to do business with.” After all there is not much future for a company that is difficult to do business with – but the truth is, most companies are difficult.
What you and I know is, there is more competition for our business today than ever before. But what you may not know is, one of the best ways to differentiate yourself from the competition is to Think Like a Customer. As a customer, you know that a little TLC goes a long way.
While there are many things a company can do, here are my favourite ones:
1-When talking with a prospect or customer embrace the habit of listening to understand. Remember most people don’t know who to trust, but when you demonstrate that you understand their wants, needs or concerns, you position yourself and your company as a credible entity
2-Be pro-active in your communications with customers and others. When you and your people already know that a problem exists, or will exist, don’t make the customer work to solve the problem because when you do, you communicate that you don’t care enough about the issue. Pick up the phone, send that email, talk to the customer face-to-face, when you do there is a much higher probability that the customer will be much more co-operative when solving the problem. Remember customers are time-pressed, so address issues fast.
3- Your presence, both online and offline) are important for demonstrating your company’s abilities. Prospects and customers feel better about doing business with an organization when they have heard of the organization or at least look like they know what they are doing.
4- Empowerment, especially of the front line, speeds up delivery times and provides desirable outcomes for customers. In addition empowerment, leads to higher employee engagement scores.
As I close off this segment, I’ll remind you of 3 things:
1-What is good for your customers is good for you, too – in more ways than one.
2-Every employee with any customer interaction has to accept their responsibility for helping the company to be seen as one that is easy to do business with, AND
3-A little TLC – goes a long long way towards ensuring your business is a successful one.
